This book examines the way that some people may be punished for their poor decisions. Here is a short excerpt:
Adam tossed and turned in the Room 8 bed, crazy thoughts
running through his mind. He could see himself at the motel walking to Room 16.
In his dream, he opened the unlocked door to the room and stepped inside. The
room was completely dark and the heat was unbearable, instantly causing sweat
to drip from his forehead. He desperately looked for a light switch, but the
walls were completely flat; no light switch to be found. Even though he should’ve turned around and
left the room, he continued to walk into the darkness. As he moved further, the
heat became more intense. Sweat dripped down his face and began to soak through
his t-shirt. As he walked further into the light, he began to see something
flickering in the distance. He began to run towards the flickering light,
hoping that it was his way out of the never ending darkness. Once near the
light, he could see and feel the flames. In the midst of the fire, stood a
great beast with large horns and a grotesque face. Its eyes were completely
black as if it had no soul, but longed for the soul of a human being. It
reached out to Adam, nearly cutting him with its sharp claws but Adam was able
to dodge it. He turned around to run, but was completely surrounded by the fire
that had engrossed the entire room. He dropped to his knees and cried out as
the flames engulfed him.
